Jesus taught more than He healed. He taught more than He preached. Teaching was first with Him.
The Anointing on Jesus
● In Old Testament times, only kings, priests, and prophets were anointed with the Spirit of God to stand in their respective offices.
● David had all three anointings and spoke of being anointed with fresh oil in Psalm 92:10.
● God still anoints prophets, priests (intercessors), and kings (believers who reign in life) today.
● The battle is won by God’s Spirit, not by human might or military power, according to Zechariah 4:6.
● The yoke of sickness and oppression is destroyed because of the anointing, as stated in Isaiah 10:27.
● Jesus returned from the wilderness in the power of the Spirit and was anointed to preach and to heal.
● Jesus ministered not as the Son of God, but as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit.
● Jesus had to be anointed because He laid aside His divine power and glory when He became human.
● Jesus performed His first miracle at Cana only after the Holy Spirit came upon Him at His baptism.

The Anointing Within
● Every believer has an anointing—an unction—that abides within them because the Holy Spirit comes into us at the New Birth.
● The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate and distinct experience from salvation.
● The New Birth brings the Holy Spirit “in” you as a well of water springing up to everlasting life.
● The baptism in the Holy Spirit brings the Holy Spirit “upon” you, causing rivers of living water to flow out to bless others.
● The Holy Spirit within us bears witness that we are children of God and leads us as sons of God.
● The Holy Spirit quickens our mortal bodies and helps us pray when we do not know what to pray for.
● The anointing within us teaches us all things, and we do not need any man to teach us in the ultimate sense.

● The Holy Spirit never testifies of Himself but always testifies of Jesus.

● The mind will try to talk us out of praying in tongues because it cannot understand what is happening.
● We must learn to listen to our spirit rather than rely solely on our natural understanding.

How the Anointing Led Me
● The anointing within us is given to teach us all things, and we must learn to listen to it.
● The author was born again on April 22, 1933, and the anointing came into him that very night.
● As a bedfast teenager with a deformed heart, paralysis, and an incurable blood disease, he listened to the inward voice that told him to get into the Bible.
● Five doctors told him he would die, but the anointing inside him said, “You don’t have to die. You can live. You can be healed.”
● He learned divine healing directly from the Holy Spirit without any human teacher.
● The inward anointing revealed to him that he had to believe he received healing first, and then he would have it.
● He acted on Mark 11:24 by saying out loud, “I believe I receive healing,” and the power of God came upon him like electricity.
● He stood up from his bed and was completely healed after 16 months of being an invalid.
● The same anointing that taught him about healing later led him into the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
● When he questioned who was right about the Holy Ghost, the inward voice directed him to Acts 2:38 and Acts 2:4.
● The Scripture revealed that receiving the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues are connected.

Ministering Healing Without an Anointing
● The signs of Mark 16:17-18 follow those who believe, not just those who are baptized with the Holy Spirit.
● The author ministered healing as a Baptist preacher without the baptism of the Holy Spirit and saw consistent results.
● He taught faith and prayer to his congregation, which produced a higher percentage of healings than many Pentecostal pastors experienced.
● He did not feel anything or sense any transfer of power when he prayed for the sick as a Baptist.
● He anointed a pianist with oil and laid hands on her before surgery, and she was instantly healed and left the hospital.
● The Word of God works with or without an anointing because God honors His Word.
● After receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he did not receive a different Holy Spirit—there is only one Spirit.
● A Southern Baptist Bible teacher warned him that speaking in tongues was of the devil.

The Fivefold Ministry Gifts
● The Word of God works with or without an anointing, but the anointing enables ministers to teach, preach, and accomplish more effectively.
● In the Old Testament, only prophets, priests, and kings were anointed, but in the New Testament, Jesus stood in all fivefold ministry offices.
● The fivefold ministry gifts listed in Ephesians 4:11 are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
● Additional ministry gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:28 include miracles, healings, helps, governments, and tongues.
● Believers can stand in more than one office, but they must find their specific calling and yield to it.
● Trying to function in an office God did not call you to is dangerous and diminishes the anointing.
● Howard Carter, a great man of God, recognized his anointing was for baptizing people in the Holy Spirit, while his wife’s anointing was for healing the sick.
● Carter could have prayed the prayer of faith, but he deferred to his wife because she was anointed for healing.
● The healing ministry should accompany the office of the evangelist, as seen in Philip’s ministry.
● Philip ministered healing to many with palsies and lame people, but not everyone was healed under his ministry.
● Jesus healed all manner of sickness because He had the Spirit without measure and stood in all five offices.

The Anointing To Preach
● The author was called to preach despite being quiet and unable to talk much as a young person.
● He had a deformed heart that would cause him to pass out if he exerted himself, so he learned to keep silent.
● After being saved and healed, he began preaching as a Baptist boy preacher, and the anointing to preach would come upon him.
● He did not have the anointing to teach initially, only the anointing to preach.
● The first time he preached, he preached for 45 minutes and continued preaching with intensity ever since.
● When the preaching anointing came upon him, he would preach so fast that the congregation could barely keep up.
● One Sunday night while preaching, the power of God filled the church auditorium like a cloud.
● He could not see any members and did not know a single word he said for 17 minutes under that anointing.
● People later told him his face shone like an angel during that service.
● After being baptized in the Holy Spirit, the anointing to preach increased significantly.
● His congregation noticed he had power he never had before, and it almost knocked them off their seats.
● A Presbyterian member who had threatened to leave if tongues came into the church ended up wanting the experience himself.
● Ninety-three percent of the congregation followed him in receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
● The glory cloud manifested again in September 1939 while he was preaching on prophecy.
● When the glory cloud came, every sinner in the church got saved, and everyone who needed the Holy Spirit was baptized.
● The preaching anointing feels different from the teaching anointing—it is more exuberant.

Don’t be a teacher just because you want to be one! Have the call and the anointing of God to do it, or else leave it alone.
The Anointing To Teach
● The author had great respect for the Word of God and was studious, but he initially had no unction or leading to teach.
● As a pastor, he was required to teach a Bible class, but he dreaded it and only prepared at the last minute.
● He had developed a supernatural ability to read something once and never forget it after being born again.
● He preferred preaching over teaching and would preach with great energy, waving his arms like a windmill.
● For nine years, he only preached evangelistic messages because he had nothing else to offer.
● In 1943, while walking through his living room, the anointing to teach suddenly dropped inside him like a coin dropping into a pay phone.
● He proved the teaching gift by starting a small Wednesday afternoon Bible study with seven or eight women.
● The anointing to teach came on him so strongly that he had to ask the Lord to turn it off because he could not stand it.
● The anointing felt like electric current flowing through him as he taught the Word.
● The women went home and told their husbands, and soon the Wednesday afternoon meetings filled the building.
● The afternoon crowd eventually became larger than the Wednesday night service.
● He proved his teaching gift through results before ever announcing it to anyone.
● He began teaching more and more until his ministry became about half preaching and half teaching.
● The teaching anointing feels different from the preaching anointing, but it is the same Holy Spirit.
If I get any gift from God, I prove it out first, and I would encourage you to do the same. Prove what you’ve got from God, and then you can talk about it.
The Anointing To Pastor
● The word “pastor” appears only once in the King James Version, in Ephesians 4:11, yet it is the most widespread ministry office.
● The Greek word for “pastor” is the same as “shepherd,” and “bishop” and “overseer” also refer to the same office.
● In the Early Church, elders (older persons) were appointed over flocks, and from these, God developed pastors.
● It is unscriptural to put a layman with no anointing into the office of elder or overseer of a congregation.
● Jesus is called the Chief Shepherd, and pastors are under-shepherds who oversee God’s flock.
● The author pastored for about 12 years but acknowledges that pastoring was not his true calling or office.
● The pastoral anointing is a different anointing from preaching or teaching, though it is the same Holy Spirit.
● He recognized the pastoral anointing on others and was blessed by it, even though he did not possess it himself.
● Many people are in the wrong office, and it is dangerous to intrude into an office God did not assign.
● In the Old Testament, intruding into another office brought instant death, but under grace, one can get by longer.
● Mighty men of God died prematurely because they tried to function in offices where they had no anointing.
● A minister who was anointed as an evangelist or prophet died because he insisted on teaching, which was not his calling.
● Ministers can spread themselves too thin across different ministries and lose the anointing on all of them.
● The author stayed in his calling—preaching and teaching faith and healing—and found his anointing there.
● In 1949, he left his last pastorate, and the Lord told him he had finally entered the first phase of his true ministry.
● Many ministers live and die without ever entering the first phase of the ministry God intended for them.
● If you are not in God’s perfect will, you cannot claim His perfect provision.
Remember, we don’t control the anointing. We must learn to flow with the Spirit.
The Anointing of the Prophet
● Jesus stood in the office of prophet, and Paul also functioned as a prophet alongside his roles as preacher, apostle, and teacher.
● A prophet has visions and revelations, and Paul learned the entire Gospel through supernatural revelation.
● There is a difference between the simple gift of prophecy and standing in the office of a prophet.
● Every Spirit-filled believer can prophesy for edification, exhortation, and comfort, but that does not make them a prophet.
● The prophetic anointing for the office is about a hundred times stronger than the simple gift of prophecy.
● The author entered the office of the prophet in 1952, though he had prophesied before that time.
● In January 1964, the prophetic anointing came upon him so strongly that he prophesied for two hours about future events.
● The prophecy covered 1964 through 1968 and included events in Vietnam and the US government.
● The anointing came upon him again on April 30, 1980, while teaching at RHEMA’s Prayer and Healing School.
● During that service, he had a mini-vision of a woman with cancer and acted it out, resulting in her complete healing.
● His staff had to tell him later what happened because he was so caught up in the Spirit that he had no memory of it.
● Sometimes the prophetic anointing is so strong that he cannot speak in English and can only speak in tongues.
● He remained unable to speak English for an hour and a half at Fred Price’s church in August 1981.
● The anointing of the prophet does not function constantly—it comes as the Spirit wills, not as the person wills.
● Some people mistakenly think prophets must operate in their office all the time and give revelations constantly.
● A man who thought he was a prophet gave 12 words from the Lord within 30 minutes, and none of them were correct.
● Music enhances the prophetic anointing, as seen when Elisha called for a minstrel, and the hand of the Lord came upon him.
● The right kind of music can increase the anointing, while the wrong song can kill it entirely.
● The “hand of the Lord” in the Old Testament refers to the Holy Spirit or the anointing coming upon a prophet.
● Ezekiel experienced the hand of the Lord coming upon him at specific times, not continuously.
● Maria Woodworth-Etter stood for three days and nights under the power of God without moving or speaking.
● Sometimes the Spirit of God arrests a person’s speech, and they cannot speak in English but can speak in tongues.
● The prophet is also called a “seer” because they see and know things supernaturally.
● Hagin saw a vision of a missing teenage girl getting on the wrong bus, and it was confirmed exactly as he saw it.
These offices are in power and not in name. If the power is not there to establish churches, then those involved are not apostles.
The Anointing of the Apostle
● The word “apostle” means “one sent forth,” and Jesus Christ is the greatest example of a sent one.
● Paul and Barnabas were sent forth by the Holy Spirit to be apostles to the Gentiles.
● The signs of an apostle include signs, wonders, and mighty deeds, as stated in 2 Corinthians 12:12.
● An apostle must have a personal, deep experience with the Lord beyond the ordinary.
● Paul saw Jesus in a spiritual vision and received the Gospel by revelation, not from other men.
● The work of an apostle is that of a foundation layer for the Church.
● The first twelve apostles laid the foundation of the Church as pioneers and receivers of the Holy Spirit.
● An apostle’s ministry embraces all other ministry gifts and includes the ability to establish churches.
● Apostles can exercise authority only over churches they have established themselves.
● These offices are in power and not in name—if the power is not there, the person is not an apostle.
● A missionary who is truly sent by God and the Holy Spirit is functioning in the apostolic office.
● Paul stayed in places from six months to three years to establish converts before moving on.
● There are no apostles today in the sense of the original twelve apostles of the Lamb.
● The original twelve had to accompany Jesus during His entire 3.5-year ministry and be eyewitnesses of His resurrection.
● However, there are apostles today in the sense that Barnabas and Paul were apostles.
● All ministry gifts, including apostles, were given until the Church comes to unity and maturity.
● The four marks of an apostle today are: outstanding spiritual gifts, deep personal experience, power to establish churches, and ability to provide spiritual leadership.
● Paul and Barnabas were not set in the office of apostle initially—they started as prophets and teachers.
● God rewards faithfulness, not offices—a faithful janitor receives the same reward as a prophet.
● Higher offices do not receive greater rewards; they carry greater responsibility.
You can decrease the anointing by neglecting to study and pray.
How To Increase the Anointing
● The anointing on any ministry or office can be increased or decreased depending on the individual.
● You can increase the anointing by studying the Word and being prayerful.
● You can decrease the anointing by neglecting to study and pray.
● A workman who does not study will be ashamed and will lose the anointing or see it stop manifesting.
● When you study, pray, and start in faith, the anointing will come upon you.
● Some ministers are more anointed than others in the same office because they have prepared themselves differently.
● Elisha asked for and received a double portion of Elijah’s anointing—a greater measure of the same anointing.
● The mantle Elijah threw over Elisha symbolized the anointing of the Holy Spirit for that prophetic office.
● Elijah tested Elisha to see if he was made of the right stuff before the anointing could come upon him.
● Elisha stayed closely with Elijah and would not leave him, showing his commitment.
● The same anointing comes by association, environment, and influence.
● Those who work closely with anointed ministers often receive the same anointing.
● Smith Wigglesworth lived his life out and died without sickness at age 87, making him a good example to follow.
● You can follow a person’s faith, but you must be careful not to follow their errors in doctrine.
● John Alexander Dowie had a powerful healing ministry but missed God in doctrine in his later years.
● A person can be right in their heart and wrong in their head at the same time.
● Paul encouraged believers to follow him as he followed Christ, showing that following faithful ministers is acceptable.
Demons take people over against their will and manifest themselves through them, but the Spirit of God will not do that against your will.
Yielding to the Anointing
● The more we yield to the Spirit of God and allow ourselves to be taken over by Him, the more results we will see.
● Demons take people over against their will, but the Holy Spirit will never do anything against your will.
● Sometimes believers become afraid when they move into the supernatural realm because they fear they cannot return to the natural.
● Enoch got so far into the Spirit realm that he just went on over, body and spirit together.
● Moving in the supernatural requires stepping out of the natural, which is not always easy.
● Smith Wigglesworth sometimes stumbled around and did not make sense until the Spirit of God came upon him.
● When the Spirit came on Wigglesworth, his countenance changed, and words flowed out of his mouth supernaturally.
● Wigglesworth never attended school a day in his life, yet he became a mighty minister through yielding to the Spirit.
● Donald Gee testified that Wigglesworth was invited to preach at general conferences so young ministers could learn to yield to the Spirit.
● Old-time Pentecostals would pray until they received the unction or anointing before delivering a message.
● Modern believers sometimes start in faith without proper preparation, missing the depth of the Spirit.
● Yielding to the anointing requires preparation through prayer and waiting on God.
If it gets the job done, praise God for it. That’s what counts. Recognize it and praise God for it, wherever it is.
Peculiar Anointings
● Christians in the “faith ministry” should not get spoiled and only want one type of ministry—we need all types.
● Pastors need to expose their people to all types of ministries and recognize the anointing upon each one.
● God is going to use some people in peculiar ways in these last days, and we must recognize and appreciate it.
● The author initially felt embarrassed by a dancing evangelist named Old Dad Smith.
● Old Dad Smith would dance people to the altar, and his anointing was so powerful that sinners could see it come upon him.
● Lawyers, bankers, doctors, and judges all got saved under his peculiar ministry.
● Dad Smith would start dancing in the flesh, and then the Spirit of God would hit him—the anointing would come.
● Hagin did not attempt to imitate Dad Smith because imitation without anointing does not work.
● God uses foolish things to confound the wise, and we should not turn our noses up at anything God is doing.
● God used a donkey once, so He can surely use anyone who yields to Him.
● God anoints some people with special anointings for unusual methods of ministering healing.
● Paul’s handkerchiefs and aprons carried the healing anointing to the sick (Acts 19:11-12).
● Jesus used various methods to heal—spitting on the ground, making clay, touching ears and tongues.
● Jesus did not plan these methods; He was suddenly anointed by the Spirit to do them.
● An early Assemblies of God minister would spit in his hand and rub it on people, and everyone got healed.
● The author once had the anointing to hit a woman with his fist in the stomach, and a large tumor instantly disappeared.
● He also hit a man on the side of the head for deafness, and his ear popped open, and he was healed.
● When the unction is there, unusual methods work; without the unction, they produce nothing.
● We are going to see extraordinary things in the days ahead that we have not seen before.
● God wants to raise a mighty spiritual army equipped with His power and anointing.
It doesn’t matter how strongly I’m anointed—if there’s not faith to give action to that power, there’ll be no healing.
The Healing Anointing
● Jesus was anointed to heal, and Acts 10:38 confirms that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power to heal the oppressed.
● The author got people healed through faith and prayer before he ever knew about the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
● He was healed himself by acting on Mark 11:23-24, not by someone ministering with a healing anointing.
● After being baptized with the Holy Spirit, he became conscious of an anointing or transfer of power going out of him to others.
● Any believer can lay hands on the sick because healing was purchased at Calvary for all believers.
● The woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus, and power (virtue) went out of Him into her, effecting her healing.
● The healing anointing is tangible—Jesus knew the moment power flowed out of Him.
● The power is transferable and can flow from one person to another, mainly through touch or laying on of hands.
● The healing power can be stored in cloth, as seen with Paul’s handkerchiefs and aprons in Acts 19:12.
● Diseases departed, and evil spirits went out when the cloths were applied to the sick.
● Demons do not always need to be discerned and cast out—the same power that heals sickness also drives out devils.
● An alcoholic was instantly delivered when the anointing came into him, and he never wanted another drink.
● People with occult involvement were set free from demonic activity when they came forward for healing.
● The Holy Spirit power flows like electricity or water and is a heavenly, tangible substance.
● Jesus gave power to His disciples to heal and cast out devils, transferring His anointing to them.
● The anointing is always there to minister to others, but it does not always work for the minister’s own needs.
● Many healing evangelists in the Healing Revival ministered under the anointing but knew little about faith.
● They got sick themselves because they only knew how to minister under the anointing, not how to receive by faith.
● The anointing does not remain in manifestation constantly because the human body cannot endure it for long periods.
● Jesus had the Holy Spirit without measure because His body was not mortal like ours.
● The author had to ask the Lord to turn off the anointing because he could not physically stand it.
● The anointing burns in his hands like fire, and he has experienced physical shaking and vibrating under it.
● In 1950, Jesus appeared to Hagin and gave him a special anointing to minister to the sick.
● Jesus told him the anointing would not work unless he told people exactly what the Lord had said.
● People must believe and receive the anointing for power to flow into their bodies and heal them.
● The stronger the anointing, the more instant healings occur, but most healing is by degree.
● Healing is based on the degree of healing virtue administered and the degree of faith that gives action to the power.
● God’s words are medicine to all flesh, and like natural medicine, they often require continued application.
The greatest anointing of all is the corporate anointing.
The Corporate Anointing
● The Body of Christ as a whole has the same measure of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had, but individual members do not.
● The greatest anointing of all is the corporate anointing, which rests upon the Church collectively.
● In the Old Testament, when the Temple was dedicated, the glory of God filled the building as a literal cloud.
● The glory of God is the Spirit of God, and the Bible calls this glory the anointing.
● God no longer dwells in man-made buildings—He dwells in us as His temple.
● The whole Church collectively is God’s temple, and the Spirit dwells in us both collectively and individually.
● When the singers and musicians became one in praising God, the cloud filled the Temple so the priests could not stand.
● There is something about the corporate body praising God that brings forth the manifestation of His glory.
● The early Church continued daily with one accord, gladness, and praising God.
● When the disciples prayed with one accord, the place was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
● Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises at midnight, and the jail shook until every door flew open.
● The corporate anointing has greater effect than individual ministry—everyone can be healed at once.
● In one service, a wind went through the building, and every sinner was saved, every backslider reclaimed, every believer filled with the Spirit, and every sick person healed.
● A woman with six months to live leaped off her stretcher and ran down the aisle when the corporate anointing moved.
● During a Holy Spirit seminar at RHEMA, 3,000 people were dancing in the Spirit, and people were healed all over the building without anyone praying for them.
● Praise had a great place in the Old Testament under the type and shadow—how much more should it have with us today.
● In Acts 13, prophets and teachers ministered to the Lord and fasted, and the Holy Spirit spoke with revelation.
● Spirit-filled praying produces Spirit-filled results.
● United prayer and united praise bring the manifestation of God’s power.
● In pastoral ministry, the author held believers’ meetings where he turned the service over to the Holy Spirit.
● Sometimes the power of God came in with such holy awe that nobody moved for an hour and a half.
● Sinners would get saved without anyone saying a word to them when the Spirit was in manifestation.

● The glory of God can fill the temple of God, and we should expect Him to come into manifestation.
● God puts His approval only on what lines up with His Word—we must get into the Word and let the Spirit open it to our spirits.
Now that you understand the anointing better, take time to seek God about your calling. Study His Word, pray fervently, and yield to the Spirit’s leading. Position yourself to receive, and step out in faith to minister where your anointing lies. The harvest is ready.
